“At BEDS Plus, people often walk through our doors in the middle of a crisis,” says Octavio Torres, Manager of Homeless Prevention.
With his own lived experience, Octavio knows homelessness isn’t a choice—it’s crises piling up. Our prevention team meets people exactly where they are, helping them stay housed and avoid the trauma and cost of eviction.
As housing costs rise, more families turn to BEDS for walk-in support, rental assistance, and links to vital community partners. Every story is different—but every story deserves stability.
Give to the Annual Appeal today and stop homelessness before it starts.
More neighbors than ever are turning to BEDS Plus for help. Last year, our Summit Service Center’s Emergency Services Walk-In Program had 7,880 visits—five times more than the year before.
Bilingual staff guide clients to healthcare, food, and essential supplies, while youth system navigators and domestic violence assessors provide specialized support.
Our team also offers housing navigation, shelter registration, homelessness prevention, and connections to medical, mental health, and social services—building stability across South and West Cook County.
