Black Homelessness In Illinois

In the State of Illinois, Black residents are almost eight times more likely to be homeless than white residents. The gap in Illinois is one of the worst in the country - double the national rate. Addressing the root causes of racial disparities in homelessness will require comprehensive measures that include not only short-term solutions like continued financial assistance for Black families that are housing insecure, but also long-term strategies that dismantle systemic barriers contributing to racial inequities in homelessness such as ending the mass incarceration of Black people.
