Addressing food insecurity by connecting clients with meals and groceries

Our Food Rescue program provides meals and food items to shelter participants and other program clients. The program compliments meal service and addresses the food security of our clients in all of our programs. Food Rescue also supports our food teams.

Our Food Rescue program is primarily supported by volunteers and in-kind donations. As of mid fiscal year 2021, BEDS was providing meals to an average of 122 clients and had delivered a total of 32,240 pounds of food.

"I really appreciate the folks who bag up these meals, deliver and prepare them they are phenomenal."

— Jane C., BEDS client

"Knowing that someone is going to knock on their door every day dropping off a meal let's them know someone cares. They can't go anywhere and often don't have cars. Clients with health issues haven't ventured out. Knowing a whole organization of people are shopping and paying for a meal for them and taking time out of their day to do this is very uplifting for the BEDS clients."

— Omar Espitia, BEDS Shelter Case Manager

“Match-A-Meal allows us to help fight homelessness through dollars being turned into food for the BEDS Plus emergency shelter. We couldn't just do that without help from local businesses and customers stepping up through Match-A-Meal to feed the hungry and less fortunate.”

— Steve Palmer, Palmer Place Restaurant & Biergarten, La Grange
