Jessica’s Moving On — Transforming Lives: BEDS Plus Transition-Aged Youth Success Story

When Jessica’s family situation broke down, she was asked to leave her home at 18. She turned to her partner for stability. But their relationship deteriorated, and she was left homeless and pregnant. She had no one else to rely on and needed help. She found it at BEDS Plus.

“I didn’t believe it was real,” Jessica recalls. “At first, I thought it was too good to be true.”

She entered our Transition Aged Youth (TAY) Transitional Housing/Rapid Rehousing program, where she received intensive case management, housing, and connections to resources tailored to her challenges. She received her housing voucher and will soon be moving on.

TAY Case Manager Angel shared, “Many of the TAY clients have been victims much of their lives. They are always on edge and don’t want to trust you. For 18 to 24-year-olds, this time is crucial for developing life skills that will last a lifetime. We help them use their past to move toward the future.”

Our TAY Transitional Housing/Rapid Rehousing program provides more than just immediate relief; it creates lasting change. “I grew up,” Jessica explains. “Program Director Javon and my case manager Danielle taught me that there is a process to everything. This is how you do it, this is what you need to do to get there. It’s great to be able to talk to people and to be open. I didn’t have anybody. Then, they came in and took me under their wing!”

Jessica graduated from college and looks forward to continuing her education to become a nurse. Jessica’s case manager Danielle shared “Jessica’s story is an example to how we can help turn around young lives.”
