BEDS Plus 2024 Summer Internship Program

Summer internships are available to rising college sophomores and above. Internships are designed to provide individuals with direct experience in nonprofit and the housing sector. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until Friday, May 10, 2024.  Students must commit to a minimum of 10 weeks at 25 hours per week, which may include evenings and weekend hours. Upon successful completion of the program, interns will receive a $1,000 stipend.

Internship Job Descriptions

Interim Housing

Work on the front line to support case management and operational work at the motel-based emergency shelter program.  Work alongside staff and volunteers to manage all aspects of the program, including direct client support.  This is a great opportunity for someone interested in serving their community or preparing for a career in nonprofit.

Work Location: Burbank, IL. Flexible schedule, with nights and weekend availability.

Supportive Housing

Be the first line of contact for our agency by working the BEDS Plus crisis hotline and front door greeter. It is a good opportunity to practice active listening skills and crisis response, and get an overview of all the housing resources our agency provides.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet residents at our permanent housing center.

Work Location: La Grange, IL. Flexible schedule, with nights and weekend availability.

Medical Respite Shelter

Assist shelter staff with serving meals, maintaining the space, and leading activities with clients in fixed-site shelter serving homeless adults who have exited from the hospital and are recovering from physical illness or injury.

Work Location: Summit, IL. Flexible schedule, with nights and weekend availability.

Transitional Housing

Gain valuable social service experience working with people who have been homeless and are currently receiving intensive case management and are living in one of our medium-term residences.

Work Location: Various. Flexible schedule Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.

Marketing/Events:

Assist with fundraising efforts and events for BEDS Plus.

Duties would include but not be limited to assisting with: social media posts and photography; contacting potential raffle donors, sponsors, and vendors for events; reviewing grant proposals; and attending events and community meetings.

Work Location: Various. Flexible schedule Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.

Volunteer Coordination

Assist with engaging current and potential volunteers through outreach and follow up; help with tracking n-kind hours and donations; creating a volunteer appreciation program and more.
